Update
Dear Silvie,
I write this through tears and am struggling to find the words. Diamond left us last night. She was trotting around the animal hospital late last night after enjoying her dinner and some fresh air, and this morning she did not wake up. After 11 years of no veterinary care, it seems that her body had had enough.
Diamond’s story effected so many, and we are so grateful to you and your supporters for loving her from afar and contributing to her care. We are devastated and heart broken.

Backstory
“Diamond lived with her family for most of her life until, at 11 years old, she was attacked by the other dog in her home. She lost her left eye in November, and two months later, on January 19, 2016 Fern Dog Rescue Foundation was contacted by the owners after a second attack that rendered her right eye blind and barely intact in its socket. After 11 years with sight, Diamond was suddenly blind. And her health issues don’t end there….
We are thankful that her owners decided to give her up to rescue so she could be safe for the rest of her life especially now that she will be completely blind and have zero means to protect herself from the other dog in the home. When Fern Dog got the call that she needed urgent help, we immediately sprung to action and brought her to our vet partner. During her exam an ultrasound was done since she is a senior and her family had not taken for a wellness check in years. It was discovered that she had two tumors in her spleen, one of which may be malignant, multiple rotted teeth, and a bladder infection.
Today, January 21, 2016, Diamond underwent a three hour surgery. She lost her second eye, her spleen and all of the tumors attached to it, and ten teeth. What she did not lose is her spirit. Just a few hours after surgery she was leaning into me for pets and reassurance, and fell asleep snoring away, with me petting her. This inspiring, resilient girl has a long road ahead of her, and we would be so thankful for a Halo to help her in her transition.”
