Update
“Hello. My name is Brandy Nease and I was lucky enough to have a Muffin’s Halo donated to my Miss Scarlett. I am so over sorry I have not got to say thank you before now. Within a day of receiving the package I had my nose busted ( ironically from Miss Scarlett), a shoulder muscle pulled, a sinus infection and a sick Boston Terrier. When it rains it pours right?
I would sincerely like to thank everybody who had a part in making the donation possible. When I opened the package tears instantly came to my eyes! Not only did I have a beautiful Muffin’s Halo, but a package full of love, hope, support, devotion and caring. For once in the past 6 years I didn’t feel alone. There are many others out there that know the daily struggles, worry and ultimate love that goes along with being lucky enough to have a blind dog. I don’t believe that people can truly relate unless they have been in that situation. Is so comforting to know there are others out there in my situation who love their babies more than anything and will do whatever necessary to keep them safe and comfortable. That package not only gave my little angel an aid to make her more confident, it gave me hope that “we got this”.
Now on to how she is doing with the Halo since I have been rambling on for way too long by now. At first, she was a little apprehensive about it. This was unusual for her because typically nothing phases her. Then we figured it out. When we put a harness on her we always go for a walk. When I put the Halo on her that’s what she thought we were going to do. Now that we’ve been putting in on her everyday increasing the time she’s doing great! She can get on and off the furniture, drink, eat and snooze! I think within another week or two she’ll be doing even better with it. It’s amazing how quickly she responded to the Halo. It’s come in extremely handy since we have two other dogs that she used to run into. She hasn’t run into them once with the Halo. Yay!!! I will keep you updated on her progress :).
I would again like to say thank you! Thank you to everyone who made donations, volunteers, reads these emails, send out the packages, answers phone calls, etc. Miss Scarlett, my husband and I will never forget this generous gift.
P.S. little background history on Miss Scarlett. Not only is she blind but she also has thyroid problems and we give her an allergy injection once a week. She is such a trooper. Every Sunday when we give her her shot she never gives us any problems and is a perfect angel! She is one of the toughest little dogs I’ve ever met! So also do this little trick where if you scratch her back, stop scratching, say “what you want?”, she’ll bark until you scratch her again…. That’s my little sassy girl!”

Backstory
“I will try to keep this short but that’s difficult for me to do. I got Miss Scarlet over 12 years ago when she was a little over a pound. 6 years ago she went completely blind from cataract. I did a bunch research and we made some adjustments.
My husband and I sleep on a mattress on the floor, we have a mat in front of her kennel, we have soft padding around all sharp corners, keep a radio constantly playing in the kitchen, kill all the grass around the inside of the fence and in general keep all the furniture the same. For years this is worked very well for us. We have even taught her voice commands to avoid Danger.
However my sweet, strong-willed, independent little girl has come down with dementia. She will have several spells a day. It is absolutely heartbreaking! She won’t respond to voice commands or us and and she completely freaks out. She will just repeatedly run into the doors the walls or anything nearby until the spell passes. Luckily she is responding to the medication but it can only do so much. I am very worried she could hurt herself. That’s one of the reasons we now sleep on the floor like college kids!
Overall, she is very healthy, active and still full of spunk! We usually have a rescue dog here every couple of months and she loves to socialize and play with them. We try to keep her as active as possible and she loves meeting new dogs and people. To be honest…. What she loves the most is getting into bed with her mommy, her daddy, her two siblings and having the fan blow on her! Oh yeah, she definitely loves her squeaky toys!”
