Shaylee

Update
“Check out Shaylee enjoying her new Muffin’s Halo! Now she can explore without bumping her head or her eye (ouch)! Thanks so much to the generous donors from Second Chance and Silvie for this wonderful invention to help blind dogs live a more fulfilling life. Now she’s already to go visit Grandma’s!”

Backstory
“Shaylee has always had A LOT of medical problems. She takes two medicines for her epileptic seizures. When we first saw eye issues, every vet we saw said it was allergies. We didn’t know it was something so serious until her eye became cloudy and swelled larger than the other eye. The vet recommended some drops but it did not get any better. We went to the pet eye doctor and discovered that it was glaucoma. The vision in the eye was gone so we went through an enucleation. She has been on drops for the 2nd eye, but just recently she developed dry eye and had to go on Tacrolimus which is like a doggie Restasis.

When she went to her eye appointment last Tuesday, she still had sight and her eye pressure was high but not in a dangerous level but the very next morning she was bumping into things and could not seem to see. We took her to the local vet but they still said her pressure was 26 which is what it was at the eye doctor. They did say she had scratched her eye. We are still giving drops and giving her the new eye ointment but we are not seeing any improvement.

I think she is totally blind now because she is bumping into everything. She doesn’t seem to orient herself well. Her appetite is still good but she is sleeping more and is not her normally jovial self since the loss of sight in this eye. I have considered ordering the halo but I am out of work (teacher– out for summer but also looking for a new job) things have been really tough with all the vet bills we’ve had this past year and a half (and we are possibly going to have to have another surgery to remove the eye. ) I am hoping a Muffin’s Halo would give her a way to explore her environment .”
