Freddy got his Muffin’s Halo!
Dear Lisa and Silvie,
“Please browse the attached photos taken today of my dear old poodle, Freddy. I hope you can see how happy he is with his Halo. Now that he’s gotten used to it, he’s able to navigate our house and backyard with confidence, with
his head up, happy and comfortable.
Freddy turned fifteen on February 9th this year, and it was just about a month ago that we realized he had gone completely blind and deaf, poor boy. We knew he was starting to lose both senses, but didn’t realize it was so
bad, then suddenly, it happened. Poor Freddy was bumping his nose into everything and acting like he was afraid to move.
Freddy has a few health problems, but they’re manageable, and he still enjoys life. He still has a healthy appetite and mobility, enjoys playing, and seems to have no pain. A few people suggested it was time to let him go, but I couldn’t do that. It just broke my heart to see Freddy bumping his nose on things. I read that area rugs and runners help blind dogs navigate the house, but he was still bumping his nose a lot. I googled “tools for blind dogs” and found out about Muffin’s Halo, and thanks to you and Lisa, Freddy now has his own Halo and is once again comfortable in the
house and in our yard. I can’t thank you enough. it’s a blessing for Freddy. With sincere gratitude,”

Backstory
“My poodle (Freddy) is almost fifteen and his heart is strong, but two weeks ago, my daughter and I found out he has a bladder stone that needs removed, and in the last month he has gone completely deaf and blind. I can manage (borrow) the money for the surgery to remove the stone, but my heart is breaking because Freddy (a poodle) has been walking around the house, bumping into things, and acting miserable.
The surgery (if he survives) would ease his pain (I’ve been told the bladder stone is large and has razor sharp edges) but he would still be deaf and blind. We knew he was slowly losing his eyesight, but he just recently lost it completely, along with his hearing. It’s like it all happened at once, poor thing.
Freddy seems to hear me when I whistle, and he knows me by smell and touch, and he pretty much knows the layout of our house, but he still walks into walls and things. This has been going on for just two weeks, and its my hope that he’ll get used to it, but meanwhile, he bumps his nose a lot & it scares him. When I see that he’s about to walk into something, I stop him if I’m there, but I’m gone 8 hours a day and my daughter goes to school, so he’s alone a lot. I googled devices to help blind dogs and your halo came up, but I have no funds for the purchase. I don’t normally ask for free stuff, but the vet bill (to diagnose the bladder stone with xrays, etc.) took the little bit of funds I have left over each month. I understand if you are unable to help (by donating a halo), but for my dog’s sake, I had to ask.
I’ve attached a picture of Freddy. He’s a good dog. People are telling me I should put him down, considering his age, health problems, and loss of hearing and sight, but I don’t want to do that. I’m going to ask our vet to check his ears again and I’m hoping they just need a super good cleaning – maybe they’re plugged with wax, at least that’s my hope. I just can’t stand to see him bumping into walls & stuff. It’s pitiful.
