Koala

Update

“My service dog has changed my life. Your amazing generosity can allow me now to return the gift and to change her precious life.”

Backstory

“I originally adopted Koala, who was a stray, from a high kill shelter. Sadly, although she was a “designer dog” (a Schnoodle) she was so terrified, she just sat in the back of her tiny cage shaking, so no one wanted her. She had just gotten kennel cough when I saw her. This virus is the excuse the overcrowded kill shelters use to “euthanize” dogs, citing them as “diseased”. I rescued her in the nick of time.

Over 35% of dogs alert naturally. Koala is one of these gifted dogs. Soon after I adopted her several personal tragedies happened, including the disappearance and death of my beloved mother. The grief and stress I experienced prompted some severe medical episodes, the severity of which I had not experienced in years. But Koala was right there and began instinctively alerting and intervening in my episodes on her own. She was a literal life saver. Heaven sent. After I saw her gift, I had her trained as my medical alert service dog. She goes everywhere with me. Knowing that she will alert me at the early onset of an episode and do the tasks needed to prevent it from getting worse has opened up my life in ways I can not describe.

Sadly, in the past few weeks Koala has rapidly lost her sight. Witnessing this amazing, sweet pup so scared and confused breaks my heart. I too am scared–how can she look out for me when she can’t see? How can she go everywhere with me and take care of me when she is so scared of bumping into things or falling off something? All of the (many) vets I have taken her to tell me that Koala is very smart and will still be able to do her job once she becomes accustomed to her “situation”.

Muffin’s Halo will allow Koala to gain confidence and feel more in control of her environment. Second Chances and the beautiful Silvie Bordeaux’s Angels can allow Koala and I to get our lives back. Thank you Silvie and Your Angels for your consideration in helping the being who has helped me so profoundly.”

With gratitude,
