Update
Even with all we are going through, Sophie and I are so very grateful for so many things. Today we are grateful for Noah and his Mom Lisa at Noah’s Legacy: I’m a blind rockstar, this is how I roll and Muffin and Silvie the creator at Muffin’s Halo For Blind Dogs !! Noah and Lisa heard about Sophies Story and all of our struggles with her medical bills from her multiple eye surgeries and they have been kind enough to donate a halo to Sophie!! Like my babies Sophie and Poncho, Noah also in a wheelchair. Noah was born without eyes and with deformed hind legs but, thankfully was rescued from a backyard breeder! Noah and Lisa have received an outpouring of support and they are kind enough to pay it forward to other visually challenged dogs. I stumbled across a story about Muffins Halo and contacted Silvie. I was concerned if a Halo could or would work for a dog in a wheelchair. Silvie then told me about Noah and directed me to a video of Noah using his wheelchair and Halo. Once I saw Noah’s video I was excited and sad at the same time, knowing that as far behind the eight ball I am already due to Sophie’s eye surgeries, medications and missed work, I could not afford to get a halo. The next thing I know, Silvie is saying send me Sophie’s story. Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!

Backstory
Sophie was rescued from a terrific neglectful situation and was near death when I picked her up in sept 2013. She was paralyzed, had urine and feces burns all over her body from being crated nearly 16 hrs a day while her dad worked/slept, was a frail nine pounds of skin and bones. She came to live with me, she got a wheelchair I nursed her back to health and I
got her to a healthy weight. All was well out of nowhere she developed sudden onset glaucoma in her right eye in November of 2014. She had a laser surgery to relieve the pressure in the pain however the doctor believes she was blinded at onset in that eye.
Then a few weeks ago on July 6th it happened to her left eye. The eye surgeon did emergency eye surgery after I left the ER with her but during the surgery the surgeon discovered she couldn’t do the lens removal surgery she wanted to because the cornea would not uncloud therefore she had to go to plan b which was just a drain implant that is temporary. She now needs a third surgery to actually do the lens surgery that was attempted on July 6.
And then after that she will need a 4th surgery to remove the temporary drain implant once the third surgery has taken hold. Each of these surgeries seem to be averaging about $3500, not including ER visits and the very expensive eye drops of which she is receiving 10 different ones at the moment. I’ve lost time from work because she’s on every 2 hours drops for the first week to 10 days min after each surgery. I have depleted all savings/favors/options/loans. As much as it kills me to do so, I have just sold my mothers wedding band set to afford the 3rd surgery
